The people behind the brand

Geoff Hardy

Vigneron & Managing Director
Geoff Hardy

Geoff completed his diploma in Wine Production in 1977 and started working with his family's 160-year old wine business, Thomas Hardy and Sons.

In 1980, Geoff and fellow viticulturist Ian Leask purchased the promising Pertaringa Vineyard in McLaren Vale. Since then he has been involved in the planting of more than 3,000 hectares of vines and has consulted to more than 200 different vineyards in Australia, France and Italy. His extensive knowledge of viticulture and wine production ensures the creation of outstanding wines.

Today, Geoff and his family produce 12,000 cases under the Pertaringa brand, exporting to Canada, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia.

In 2011, Geoff acquired the remaining share of Pertaringa Wines to become its sole custodian and also launched his Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy range of wines. Together with K1 by Geoff Hardy, these brands now make up Wines by Geoff Hardy and continue the 160-year old family tradition of pushing the boundaries of Australian viticulture.

Bec Hardy

Viticulturist & Brand Manager
Bec Hardy

After completing her Viticultural Science degree at the University of Adelaide in 2003, Bec spent time working at K1 and Pertaringa as well as doing vintages at Maxwell Wines, Orlando Wyndham and Lion Nathan. In 2006, she moved to London to complete the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Diploma, and work for Startford's Wine Agencies to further her knowledge of the global wine industry.

In late 2009, Bec returned to the family business from Sydney where she had been managing the national sales for Pirie Tasmania by Dr Andrew Pirie, also the founder of Pipers Brook.

Today, Bec holds a post-graduate qualification in business from UniSA and maintains her interests in the vineyard operations while leading the sales team across the three Wines by Geoff Hardy brands.

Together with husband and General Manager Richard Dolan, she can often be found working the the cellar door at Pertaringa.

Richard Dolan

General Manager

When Geoff Hardy met Richard Dolan he wasn't to know that he was meeting his future son-in-law and General Manager of Wines by Geoff Hardy, but that is exactly how it turned out.

Richard is an experienced and talented executive with a background in financial services. Prior to joining Wines by Geoff Hardy in 2011, Richard was National Operations Manager with Elders Financial Planning, a role he held since 2006. During this time, Richard played an important role in the establishment of a joint venture between OnePath (formerly ING Australia) and Elders Limited in 2009.

A Yorkshireman by birth and an Australian by choice, Richard, who migrated to Australia in 2002, holds both an undergraduate degree in International Studies and a Masters Degree in business.

Seeking a lifestyle change from corporate humdrum, Richard joined the family business shortly after marrying Bec in 2011 and following Geoff's acquisition of the remaining share of Pertaringa. He is currently working on bringing together the operational requirements, sales and brand activities of the broader Wines by Geoff Hardy business.

On weekends, he and Bec can often be found working in the Pertaringa cellar door.

Shane Harris

Winemaker & Brand Ambassador
Shane Harris

Shane is also a chef by trade and uses the skills honed in the kitchen to exert a Gastronomic Intelligence in his winemaking philosophy at Pertaringa.

With 10 years of experience in the cellar Shane believes in earning his stripes, starting as a cellarhand and spending many long nights studying the science of wine in the pursuit of his winemaking goals.

Shane has been involved in the Pertaringa winemaking since 2006 and was appointed Senior Winemaker in 2009. He relies on the vines to translate the unique message of the vineyard into something tangible and sees his role as "not losing the message between picking the grapes and opening the bottle".

Today, Shane is receiving due recognition for his winemaking through Pertaringa's award-winning wines.
