GSM 2009

Wine: Grenache first arrived in Australia with James Busby in his 1832 collection and has enjoyed a rich and varied history. While not a new variety, today it represents below 2% of the annual crush in Australia.

At Pertaringa we feel Grenache deserves a revival of sorts as the principal variety in this traditional blend. Supported by Shiraz and Mourvedre, and referred to as GSM, it reaffirms our own commitment to these varieties in McLaren Vale.

Vintage: The 2009 vintage started off really positive with good, even temperatures and an early drop of rain in December. Hot conditions in January were combated by excellent canopy management before cooler February / March temperatures allowed for a beautiful even ripening period post veraison. Overall an excellent year showcasing a good balance of ripe fruit and cool climate complexity.

Tasting Note: Dark ruby in colour with loads of red fruits including cherries, strawberries and raspberries with delicate hints of earth and spice. The bright fruits continue on the palate with a characteristic luscious mouth feel and fine soft tannins, making it an extremely versatile food wine.
