Tannat 2009

Wine: Originally from the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in south-western France, Tannat has a rich history that dates back to the 17th century when French kings would accept wines made from this variety as payment for taxes.

At Pertaringa we feel that this variety has found a new home in the foothills of McLaren Vale. We have planted a single vineyard Tannat on an alluvial fan formation consisting of clay and gravelly sands.

Vintage: The 2009 vintage started off really positive with good, even temperatures and an early drop of rain in December. Hot conditions in January were combated by excellent canopy management before cooler February / March temperatures allowed for a beautiful even ripening period post veraison. Overall an excellent year showcasing a good balance of ripe fruit and cool climate complexity.

Tasting Note: Our Tannat is dense purple red with aromas of blackberry, blueberry and black pepper. On the palate it is rich and earthy with fine fruit tannins, perfect to accompany robustly flavoured meat dishes or matured cheese.

We believe this wine reflects our goal of producing distinctive wines that are characteristic of their variety and reflective of our terrane.
