Granny smith apple, kiwi fruits and citrus blossoms make an enchanting perfumed nose. The palate also delivers with intense tropical fruits providing excellent fruit weight while nuisances of box hedge, cut grass and minerals provide interest and complexity. The cool vineyard site also allows good retention of natural acidity that is expressed in the minerality and persistence of flavour.

Aromas of granny smith apple and mango cheeks with green tea, vanilla and oatmeal. Intense tropical fruits including passionfruit and citrus dominate the front palate, but it’s the mid palate where the finest French coopered barrels show their class providing weight and texture. Fine natural acidity gives length and structure to the wine, finishing with a clean zesty finish.

The Stage Left Merlot is a medium body style with 55% of the fruit originating from our McLaren Vale vineyard - slightly softer, plummy and rounded - while the other 45% originate from Geoff Hardy's K1 vineyard in the Adelaide Hills to retain higher natural acidity and to add complexity, texture and finesse to the wine.

Bright ruby in colour, it reveals luscious red fruits including cherries, strawberries and raspberries with delicate nuances of earthiness on the nose. The palate continues with these bright red fruit aromas, but underscored is a fine sensation of white peppery spice. This elegant and medium-bodied style with almost Pinot Noir like characters is immediately enjoyable as the tannin structure is soft.

Pertaringa’s Understudy Cabernet is so named as it is just that; this wine is the next in line to our flagship red, the Pertaringa Rifle and Hunt Cabernet Sauvignon. No second fiddle, the Understudy Cabernet is a stylistic contrast to our Rifle and Hunt, and is traditionally vinified before maturation in French and American oak, with a view to immediate drinkability.

A complex array of fruits lift with ink like concentration, the palate delivers waves of vibrant Satsuma Plum, black cherries and beetroot that interplay with freshly laid asphalt and earth. Fine grain French oak tannins keep the wine on course to deliver a youthful and persistent finish. Decanting this wine before serving will assist the wine opening up for your immediate enjoyment and will reward your foresight in setting some aside for the next decade!

Over the Top is Pertaringa’s very best Shiraz. Fragrant black- / forest berries with hints of lavender and nutmeg on the nose, followed by layers of fruit including blackberries, plums and dried herbs underscored by savoury notes.

Traditionally vinified and aged in the best new French oak, Pertaringa is most confident that every bottle of Rifle & Hunt will cellar well as have previous vintages. 

This liqueur fronti stars Rancio, with dried fruit aromas including sultanas, apricots and dates co-starring. The fruit flavours on the palate are a show not to be missed. This wine is the perfect encore for a fantastic meal!
